Again, you don’t want to waste time digging through a huge suitcase for your sunglasses or sunscreen. Not only will this help you reduce your use of single-use plastics, but it will also save you money on bottled water. If you’re on an island where the water isn’t safe to drink, you can buy a reusable, filtered Water-To-Go water bottle so you always have access to clean and safe drinking water. And speaking of charging, don’t forget to pack a portable charger or power bank; there’s nothing worse than having your phone die in the middle of taking those perfect beach photos.

Formal wear for Dressy Nights, pajamas, workout clothes if you plan to use our fitness center. Find out more about Caribbean weather in our article about the best time to cruise the Caribbean. For my trip to the Caribbean, I brought my Dagne Dover carry-all tote as my personal item. I knew I’d need some extra space for my electronics and spare clothing items, so I opted for a bag that would give me some extra space. When you’re ready to start packing, download our editable Essential Caribbean Packing Checklist.
Wearable Jumpsuit
Rashguards and swimshirts protect from the sun’s intense rays while enjoying water activities. You may think you don’t need one, but by the third day of a cruise, when you’re hitting the beach under the hot Caribbean sun, you wonder why you didn’t bring one. I couldn’t have been more excited about Farm Rio’s collaboration with Adidas this year. The tropical Brazilian patterns paired with the functionality of Adidas sportswear are the perfect pair for any Caribbean packing list — from airport sweats to beach sandals.
While we cover all the items in detail below, you can click the image (or click this link) to download the printable PDF. Second, in the middle of the ocean it’s tough to run out for anything that you forgot. Yes, you can wait until you get to port to pick up things you meant to bring, but that’s not always convenient. You may also want to consider using a beach locker (a waterproof container you wear around your neck to keep your money and credit cards). Additionally, get waterproof cases for your phone and camera to keep them safe while you swim, sail or kayak.
Best Time to Go to the Caribbean
We love listening to music when we’re relaxing in a hotel bed in the morning or getting ready for the day. The JBL Flip Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker is our go-to whenever we’re traveling. With an actual heavy-duty waterproof phone case, you’ll have peace of mind bringing your phone with you when participating in water activities. And for the ladies specifically, it’s always good to carry around feminine wipes, especially for those post-beach or post-swimming scenarios.
Sojos Retro Oval Sunglasses
A highlighter can help to mark off the activities you want to do. This includes basic items such toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream etc. You may also want to pack perfume, moisturizers and other personal items. This stainless steel tumbler comes with a bonus of stainless steel straws, perfect for cruises which have reduced plastic on board and therefore no longer give out plastic straws. Consider getting at least 2 sets with different sizes, and color code to keep better organized.
No beach vacation is complete without a pair of flip-flops or sandals. The flip-flops are great for the beach, and a nice pair of sandals that work well with the rest of my wardrobe can be worn for dinner and throughout the ship. While not listed, don’t forget to bring undergarments and socks. The Caribbean’s yearlong warm weather requires serious sun protection. I love the vibrant pitaya color to compliment printed dresses for a night out, and they come in a number of other versatile colors like mustard yellow, black, and ruby red. These semi-flats also liven up more simple outfits, from shorts to rompers.
Zip Lock Bags
Too often I hear people say that they don’t go on cruises because they’re prone to motion sickness. And I have to be honest, even aboard a larger ship, you’ll likely be able to feel the boat rocking at times. However, as someone who is sensitive to sea sickness myself, I can assure you this shouldn’t deter you from setting sail and there’s a solution that will keep you feeling your best. You might be thinking this tote could make a good personal item or carry-on as well, and you’d be correct. Personally, I prefer to bring a larger duffle and tuck a tote like this inside it for even more space.
I prefer to pack a straw hat that feels stylish in addition to functional like this one from Volilipex. If you haven’t discovered the joy of packing an extension cord yet, trust me it’ll feel like an unexpected luxury on your next trip. My brother and I will be sharing a room on our upcoming trip, so an extension cord is especially vital to lessen sibling bickering (yes, even as grown adults).
You definitely want to have one with you when you leave the ship to visit the ports or go on excursions, at the very least. Although technically you are able to take some cruises without a passport, and just show your birth certificate, we strongly recommend having a passport. Getting a US passport isn’t difficult, but does take time, so start the process at least 4 months before your intended cruise.
For the guys (and gals too), crossbody shoulder sling bags work really well for traveling! My boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with his Bellroy Sling Bag. If for some reason you’d like to go with a travel backpack or duffel, my best recommendation is the North Face Base Camp Duffel.
One item not to forget to pack for your Caribbean cruise is sunscreen. The sun is much more intense on the cruise ship, especially when at sea. As cruises are sailing again, many cruise lines have vaccine requirements and/or will be asking for Covid 19 test results as you board on embarkation day. Please check with your cruise line or travel agent for requirements for your booking.
Chances are you already have a first aid kit lying around at home. Take a few bandaids, ointments, etc. with you on your cruise trip in case of emergencies. To carry all this stuff in an organized way, I recommend getting yourself a hanging toiletry bag. Feeling a bit gross after a hike, swim, or bike ride but don’t have the time to shower right in that instant? Just whip out one of these large body wipes for a quick refresher. Hand sanitizer gel or hand sanitizing wipes are a must any time you’re going to be in contact with surfaces many other people have touched.
